CBD the Antioxidant
On a daily basis we encounter free radicals in our environments. Your bodies #1 defense against these harmful toxins are antioxidants. Naturally, fruits and vegetables are an excellent sources of antioxidants. But did you know cannabinoids have been shown to have equal or greater oxidative capacity than Vitamin C and Vitamin E? Here is why it is important to combat free radicals with CBD Oil.
Oxidative stress is the result of an imbalance of free radicals and antioxidants. An antioxidant readily donates an electron to a free radical to prevent it from stealing an electron from a healthy cell and damaging it. Oxidative stress has been linked to cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. In 1999, The United States Department of Health & Human Services filed for, and was awarded, a patent (US6630507B1) for "Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants".
"This discovery was made possible because of the inventor's recognition of a previously unanticipated antioxidant property of the cannabinoids in general (and cannabidiol in particular) that functions completely independently of antagonism at the NMDA, AMPA and kainate receptors. Hence the present invention includes methods of preventing or treating diseases caused by oxidative stress, such as neuronal hypoxia, by administering a prophylactic or therapeutically effective amount of a cannabinoid to a subject who has a disease caused by oxidative stress."
With the legalization of medical marijuana in many states, and the passage of the 2018 farm bill allowing for the cultivation of hemp, we are now starting to see research that is congruent with prior studies.
